Holding on to change

This is a project I’ve been shooting for the past 10 years.

In this project, I have been focusing on the daily moments filled with struggle, hope and joy. This is also a personal journey. Since I’ve been living abroad, these images symbolise my way to connect back to my roots, hold on to parts of my identity but at the same time document the changes in my homeland. In parallel, my style has also evolved over the years, so the series also shows a personal photographic journey.

The place where I photograph these images, Izbiste, is my grandparents village, a place I used to spend a lot of time as a kid and a place that for me represents a safe haven. In this project I focus on the daily life of its inhabitants, showing what makes this place special but also focusing on specific clothes, food and traditions that charachterise the village.
